Prepare the area
Clear the area of any debris, rocks, or weeds.
Measure and cut the fabric
Measure the area you want to cover and cut the fabric to size. Be sure to leave a few extra inches on all sides to allow for trimming. If you are covering a large area, you may need to overlap multiple pieces of fabric.
Secure the fabric
Use landscape fabric staples to secure the fabric to the ground. Space the staples or pins about 2-3 feet apart along the edges of the fabric and at intervals throughout the center.
Make holes
If you want to plant through the fabric, cut holes in the fabric where you want to plant. Use a utility heaters or scissors to make the holes, and be sure to leave enough space for the plants to grow.
